Artist Statement

I want the viewer to feel sympathy. I want the viewer to feel pain. I want the viewer to feel comforted, yet, uncomfortable. I want the viewer to feel a connection, a bond, a relationship with the object of the canvas that feels so strangely human. I want the viewer to feel seen without them knowing they have been heard.

The work attempts to reveal the concealed. Using the tactility of the materials of paint, dry media, film photography, sculpture, and installation, to make the abstract of the mind something tangible. To unveil the constructs we have created as a society that force us to hide our emotion and bring it into the spotlight. To make the viewer feel seen and reflected. To draw attention to the little things. Or the big things that feel little. The all-consuming moments we feel obliged to keep to ourselves.

Each mark speaks for what’s left unsaid. A piece of me and a piece of you, all at once. A mirror shattered into a million shards of glass.  A fragmented reality of mutual understanding. My work forces me to reveal a reflection of myself I hardly recognise. Etched into the face, shaped throughout the body. And forces you as the viewer to recognise- we are all bound by the same invisible red string.
